You need to view the jokes as people saying "good job, I liked the video" as any non negative comment is a good comment.
Smash bros melee mods mods#
The melee mods you do and the content I provide is naturally going to attract jokes and memes. Also while YouTube comments is not the most intellectual part of the Internet, it is much better to look for feedback right at the water source rather than the community gatherings of zebras, elephants, and lions. Moderate your subreddit well and have strict rules regarding feedback and ban the rule breakers. You should make use of your subreddit and send people who pm you feedback there. Twitter is also not the best place for feedback especially in an ecosystem with multiple big sharks (other smash bros personalities) who are like gang leaders and their lackies come and do drive-bys every once in a while depending on the gang leader's mood. It also has a tendency to create circle jerks and brainwash people to thinking similarly because of the upvote downvote system.
I learned that you should not look for feedback on Reddit as it is a place where people gather to pick apart faults more often than not. As a long time YouTube content creator myself, instead of trying to ignore it when you encounter it, trying to limit encounters is a better option. I'm actually very strongly considering making Smash 4 content because I love making content for the Smash community and I love doing commentary, but I fucking hate my Melee audience, and that's not exactly unwarranted.Ī lot of advice people seem to give, regarding negative reactions, is "grow a thicker skin" or "learn to ignore it" however the negativity still reaches your psyche to some degree or another and it is a terrible feeling. I understand it's the vocal minority, but when the vocal minority is most of what you see and hear it takes a lot out of you. The glitch video audience treats me like I'm an actual person and makes me feel appreciated as a content creator, and the Melee audience makes me feel like I'm a content monkey and I have to make content to fill my daily quota or else I'm doing something wrong. It actually almost felt nice when I got a lot of negative feedback and mean criticism for that video because I was finally getting something different from walls and walls of meme comments.īasically I don't want to upload more Melee stuff because my Melee audience is entitled and unappreciative, and that's not an audience I want to make content for. I sent him one tweet telling him to stop being a shitter, but that's the extent to which I interacted with him and the extent to which I really cared about what he had to say. People seem to think that Leffen talking shit about my Fox video is what demotivated me, but that couldn't be further from the truth. I got really sick of 90+% of the comments on my Melee videos being obnoxious memes and joke suggestions, and having what feels like a more real audience is a nice change of pace. I like the audience I'm building up around glitch videos because even though it's way smaller it's a lot more supportive and a lot more interactive. Then when I started uploading other stuff, my Melee audience started acting horrible towards me, which isn't exactly making me want to make more content for them. I started taking a break since after uploading almost every day for two months straight I was starting to get burned out.
